Cinema for the youngest

Movies created for the youngest by the youngest

A special evening was held in Vizzolo Predabissi (Italy) on April 1st. On this occasion two films were presented to the public. The movies are entitled "Who are you?" and "Runaway from the woods" and have been made by middle school students of Vizzolo Predabissi (MI) during a workshop mad possible thanks to the regional project "Designing equality in Lombardy". The worksho involved thirtytwo 13-year-old boys who wrote, directed and starred in a film within 3 months. The process was supervised by Davide Romeo Meraviglia and Adalberto Lombardo, young directors from Milan.
During the presentation of the event, mr Meraviglia said: "When it comes to equality, cinema and TV series very often offer stereotypes about men and women. For example, the main characters are often masculine, strong and smart, whereas many female characters are fragile and weak women. Without it being noticed, this system helps to strengthen the inequality in collective thinking. It is essential that the mainstream culture help to convey an image of a better and possible society. That's why we have chosen to create films that resemble blockbusters in style and form, but which however overturn the feminine stereotype. We want to show women with greater and better qualities and prove that it would work even better. We have taught the kids the process that leads to the creation of a film and we have guided them all the time until the final cut. Everything was done 100% by the kids, from idea to production. Also the direction is made by three very young students. Considering the fact that the pupils are 13 years old and did not have any previous knowledge about filmmaking, the results are surprising. I'm very proud of the kids".
