Empty Man - The art of Federico Clapis beyond social media

The movie will be streaming on ItsArt and Chili from May 31st

From May 31st, the documentary directed by Davide Romeo Meraviglia, produced by LAMP - Light And Motion Pictures will be streaming on Chili and ITsART. Empty Man - The art of Federico Clapis beyond social media tells the real story of Federico Clapis, born in Milan in 1987, who quit a successful career as an internet celebrity to follow his true passion: art.

Once a disruptive comedic character on social media, one day this is no longer enough for Federico Clapis: millions of followers become irrelevant to his eyes. Federico feels the need to be taken seriously for what he wants to convey to the world and which he now wants to share with everyone: his vocation for art. It is in the artworld that he feels alive and in which he has always wanted to express himself. Quitting the role that had made him famous, he now faces a new stage with an ambitious goal: being consecrated as an international artist. Federico Clapis forces the doors of Art to open but will this be enough for finally filling the soul of the "Empty man"?
The event in the Triennale museum in Milan (Italty) ends up assuming a central role in the narrative. As the film unfolds, so does the  private intimate life of Federico Clapis and we begin to glimpse the first cracks in the artist's image that emerge from the social media posts. We finally see the more human and true side of him, including its darkest corners: this is what makes us identify with his struggle and that makes us side with him.

Every day Clapis invites the online audience to write and share the feelings that his works arouse on social media, since he considers sharing an integral part of the artistic act. In this way, sculptures, installations and video art become a vehicle for a deeper adventure, to discover a path of sharing between artist and user.

The director of the film Davide Romeo Meraviglia says: “In his own way he is a hero capable of exorcising what everyone has dreamed of at least once in their lives, but only few of us have had the courage to really do: giving up everything and chase a dream despite adversity. Federico is still very present on social channels, which indeed have become an integral part of his artistic career. Through these he shows only the most public part of his career. That is why in order to reveal the hidden side of him I chose a stylistic language made of rough and often “dirty” images. With a hand-held camera we follow him in the most intimate moments of his life, those in which he abandons his public person and tells us his most hidden thoughts. Far from the glossy images published on his social channels, we show the audience a never seen before aspect of Federico Clapis ”.

The choice of the documentary, shot between the end of 2019 and February 2020, is therefore to tell the story of an artist who blends in himself the social universe, the world of contemporary art and the new technological frontiers of Crypto Art that for the last few years have been changing the dynamics of the traditional art market.

Empty Man - The art of Federico Clapis beyond social media is the first feature film by LAMP - Light And Motion Pictures, a production company that has found in cinema the only art capable of making the images of a story tangible on different sensory levels: pushing creativity beyond borders and making use of the most innovative technologies, LAMP wants to tell modern fairy tales that can be understood by everyone and transmit different messages with different levels of depth. LAMP wants to give voice to fantastic stories because imagination is fundamental to accept and live reality better.
